Bennu is an ancient Egyptian heron deity associated with rebirth, the dun and creation. The two headed/intertwined snakes are symbolic of rebirth, the earth and the underworld and are represented as night and day (life and death).
It is also the name of a potentially dangerous asteroid that could impact earth in approximately 150 years time.
The koi are symbolic of strength of purpose, long life and good luck.
Hand drawn and hand cut paper, 80x40cm
A Psychopomp is a spirit or deity, often depicted in animal form, which guide people into the afterlife. It is also an amazing word.
The piece is split into two, night and day, life and death. The daytime is represents life and growth, organic patterns and plants. The second half with nocturnal animals and abstract patterns, representing the more abstract idea of what comes 'after'.
Inspired by concepts in Greek mythology and myth.
The piece along with Bennu, will be displayed at the Salon Des Beaux Arts 2019, in Paris at the Carrousel de Louvre 13th-16th December 2019.

My decorated Okiagari Koboshi for the Okiagari Koboshi project by Kenzo Takada.
This is a traditional doll from the Fukushima prefecture called an Okiagari Koboshi. Symbolising resilience, the dolls will be exhibited from 14-16th September in Roppongi, Tokyo to commemorate the anniversary of the Fukushima disaster. They are messages of hope and friendship to the japanese people and the victims of the disaster.
I chose sunflowers to decorate my doll. After the disaster, and in other similar disaster areas such as Chernobyl, fields of sunflowers are planted as they soak up radiation through their roots, which I think is amazing. A wonderful symbol of hope! Plus they are such a happy flower!
